The curriculum is made up of two modules. The first provides training required for certification of reserve officers, corrections officers or special function officers. The second module continues with training for officer certification with full police powers, leading to careers as police officers, deputy sheriffs or members of the Utah Highway Patrol. Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice: To earn an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, students must complete 60 credit hours comprising 35 general education credits, 15 core credits and 10 credits from foreign language courses. The core criminal justice courses include classes like introduction to criminal justice, criminal investigations, intro to forensic science, criminal law and laws of evidence. Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice: The Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice includes 120 credits. Thirty-five credits are earned through general courses, 68 through core requirement courses and 18 credits through electives. At least 40 credits must be earned by taking upper division classes. Students take classes such as Criminal Law, Juvenile Justice and Laws of Evidence. Graduates are also required to complete the Business Computer Proficiency exam scoring 80 percent or higher. Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science: Students in the Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science program are required to complete 121 credits, including 35 credits from general education courses, 62 credits from core courses and 21 credits from electives. Students take classes in Footwear Impression Evidence, Tire Imprint Evidence and Forensic Trace Analysis. They also learn crime scene investigation techniques and how to examine fingerprints.
